Doing Church Differently

Dear All,

As promised in my last letter here is a list of various ways as to how we aim to do church differently and connect each other through worship and prayer.

I will post a service each week with a thought/short talk/reflection either from Gretel or I. You can find this in the following places:

On either of the Church websites where there will be a link to the video'd service:

On this website - see 'Video'

If you have Facebook please 'like' the Facebook page for St Lawrence Church Seal Chart and you will find the videos that I will be posting on there too and often a 'live' recording.

I will email out Church services and reflections that we'll all be using as well - we will all then be singing from the same hymn sheet, excuse the very poor attempt at some humour!

My suggestion is that if you can we all make a ritual of this, sitting somewhere quiet, lighting a candle, perhaps some favourite music in the background ( not Opera for me  - for those of you who remember that sermon), and then read trough the service or watch it at the same time - 10am every Sunday.

In addition I will be celebrating Holy Communion on everyone's behalf every week in each Church, to keep the sacramental worship happening in the Church building. I will try and record this and post it in the places listed above.

Gretel and/or I will also say Morning Prayer in each Church twice a week, once in each. The Church of England Daily Prayer App is really good and it means we join with Anglican Christians across the world praying the same prayers. I will ring the bell in each Church, if I can, when I've done this and Communion.

Both our churches will be open during the day and my grateful thanks are with all those who make this happen, it is so important and valuable. Please do take the necessary precautions, ie handsanitiser etc if you go and use the space for much needed quite and time away.

Please do continue to phone each other for a chat and a catch up which is so wonderful.

We are very much Open as a Benefice and as a worshipping community in this place. Our community initiatives have been gratefully received.

Please do remember the Foodbank, these are absolutely vital at this time when many families and individuals will be in desperate need. In particular at the moment they need the following:

Washing powder

Soap/hand wash

Toiletries

Nappies (larger sizes)

Shampoo

Toothpaste

And so finally...

"In the same way by our faith the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and in our praying. For we don’t even know what we should pray for nor how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words...

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord". Romans 8 ( The Living Bible and NIV).

My love and prayers with you all as always,

Serena x
